The social network platform X (formerly Twitter) is testing a free version of its AI chatbot called Grok, which was developed by Elon Musk's company xAI. Previously, Grok was only available to users who paid for a premium subscription, but now the company seems to be opening it up to more users.

Recently, some users in specific regions, like New Zealand, have reported getting free access to Grok. However, there are some limitations: users can make a maximum of 10 queries every two hours on the main Grok-2 model, 20 queries for the lighter Grok-2 mini model, and up to three image-related questions daily. To access this free version, users must have an account that's at least seven days old and linked to a phone number.

The goal behind this move might be to increase the user base and get more feedback quickly, helping Grok compete with other popular chatbots like ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini.
By allowing free access, xAI could improve its product faster and potentially attract more users, especially in the competitive AI market.
